The Mundelein Park & Recreation District will host a free community picnic from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 17 at the Diamond Lake Beach in Mundelein.
The community get-together will be full of good old fashioned fun. Start the day off with free admission to the beach, where attendees can go for a swim in the lake, take a spin on a paddleboat, cruise the lake on a kayak, traverse around on a paddleboard, build a sandcastle, navigate the floating Wibit SportsPark, play a game of beach volleyball, or just relax and soak up the sunshine.
Instructors from Mundelein Park District’s Park View Health & Fitness will be offering a free Zumba class at 10 a.m. on the beach.
WXLC radio station will be broadcasting remotely from the beach from 4 to 6 p.m., and Chick-fil-A of Vernon Hills will be selling its breaded chicken sandwiches during lunch and dinner time. Free lemonade will be available throughout the day.
The day will wrap up with a water ski performance by the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team at 6 p.m. The show features tricks, freestyle jumps, fast-paced barefoot skiing and pyramid formations. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.
“We’re excited to be able to expand this annual event with the help of our Beach Comber sponsor Knauz Automotive Group in Lake Bluff,” event coordinator Mike Gerton said. “We’re pleased to be able to provide this quality event to the community, and still at no charge for admission.”
Diamond Lake Beach is located in Mundelein on Diamond Lake Road between Route 60/83 and Route 45/Lake Street. Free parking is available.
